A welding career offers bright employment prospects and great wages.  If you consider yourself a builder, training to become a welder is a great choice.

Salary Ranges / Job Outlook for Welders

The employment outlook for welders is excellent and expected to keep pace with growth over the next eight years.  However, low end, unskilled welding jobs will continue to be replaced with automation.  It's very important to possess the proper computer training to remain employed.  Additionally, welders may need to change the industry they work in since production demands tend to be cyclical.

Wages for welders are good.  The median hourly pay rate is $14.02 with $9.41 per hour being the low end and $21.79 being the high end.  Welders may also be members of industry unions.

Advancement opportunities in welding primarily take the form of increased wages, with experience and training.  Management opportunities also exist in the form of supervisory positions, inspector jobs or even teaching.  Some experienced welders even open their own businesses in manufacturing or repair.
