Occupational therapist assistants work directly in the rehabilitation of patients.  If you're suited to direct patient care and have patience for developmentally disabled people, this growing field could be for you.

Salary Ranges / Job Outlook for Occupational Therapist Assistants

The demand for occupational therapist assistants is expected to remain strong and grow an above average amount over the next decade.  There may be a short term downturn due to proposed legislation that would limit reimbursement for therapy services.  However, the overall increase in patients requiring this treatment will increase demand for therapist assistants over time.

According to 2002 data by the U.S. Department of Labor, the median annual pay rate for occupational therapist assistants is $36,660 and the high and low range of the scale is $25,600 at the low end and $48,480 at the high end.

Advancement in this career usually takes the form of increased income.  Obtaining further education can qualify an assistant to become an occupational therapist.
