Post secondary education is not necessarily required to become a secretary, but medical secretaries must possess specific skills.  A one or two year career college can prepare you for this career.

Coursework will specifically train in typing, medical terminology, basic accounting, accounts payable/receivable and computer programs like Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and other database software.  Outside of the software and medical terminology classes, much of the training for becoming a medical secretary will be learned on the job.
