The standard educational path to becoming an occupational therapist assistant is a two year associates degree.  There is also some on the job training.  Coursework includes gerontology, anatomy, physiology, mental health, pediatrics and biology.  A 16 week clinical rotation is also part of the training.

Licensing is regulated by most states and a national certification test is required to become a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant.
