Like any other profession the pay range for a purchasing management agent depends upon factors such as skills, experience, type of employment and geographic location.
In 2002, the median pay rate for purchasing management agents, including those in wholesale and retail was approximately $59,890 annually in the United States. The low end of this scale earned around $32,330 and the high end earned around $180,140 each year.
Purchasing managers receive basic benefit packages that include vacations, sick leave, life and health insurance and pension plans. In addition to these typical employment benefits they may receive compensation through bonuses based on performance, travel opportunities and discounts on merchandise bought from their employer.
Despite the use of electronic transactions the demand for purchasing management agents is anticipated to grow steadily through the next decade in the U.S. Purchases of complex equipment can be difficult to automate and to transact electronically, therefore purchasing managers are still in high demand for these personal transactions. Job openings are expected to occur in order to replace employees that transfer to other occupations or who leave the work force.
