According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment opportunities for those interested in becoming a computer programmer are expected to grow more slowly than the average occupation over the next several years.  This is because advances in software are eliminating the need to have a computer programmer to complete routine programming tasks.  According to the Bureau, the median annual salary for a computer programmer in 2004 was $62,890.
