According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment opportunities within the ultrasound technician field are expected to grow faster than the average occupation over the next several years.  This is primarily due to the growing elderly population, which will require diagnostic imaging in order to treat ailments.  The Bureau reports that the median annual salary for an ultrasound technician in 2004 was $52,490.
