A web site developer is responsible for designing and creating a web site layout. The role of the web site developer is to determine ways to create a web site that is both attractive to the user and easy to navigate. In addition, a web site developer may be called upon to implement certain elements to improve the ranking of the web site with search engines. This process, known as Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is an ever-changing field that requires being continually up-to-date in changes in search engine requirements.
Often times, a web site developer will work on a freelance basis. This requires having the ability to communicate easily and effectively via email, instant messaging, and telephone conversations. In doing so, the web site developer must create a site that meets the expectations of the site owner, which may require making several changes along the way.
A web site developer must also be knowledgeable in basic programming languages, particularly html, in order to create a viable and attractive site.
