Acquiring an auto body specialist degree generally requires completing at least two years of post-secondary education.  In many cases, you can earn certification in different aspects of auto body repair as you work toward acquiring your degree.  In this way, you may be able to find employment in the field as you work toward your degree.

Even after completing your formal education, you will likely be hired to assist an auto body specialist that is experienced in the field.  By working closely with this specialist, you will learn more tricks of the trade and will ultimately be able to go out on your own. In general, it takes three to four years of this on-the-job training to become fully qualified as an auto body specialist.  In addition, after completing your training, you will likely need to head back to school in order to continue your education so you can further advance your career.
