The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that employment opportunities for those in the auto body specialist field will grow as fast as the average occupation through 2016. There will be a continued need for auto body specialists as increasing numbers of drivers hit the road and as the lighter weight of newer vehicles makes them more prone to damage. Therefore, specialists with formal training and experience in the field will enjoy excellent employment opportunities.
In May of 2006, the median hourly wage for an auto body specialist was $16.92. The lowest 10% of wage earners received less than $10.10 per hour while the top 10% earned over $28.71 per hour.
