The number of employment opportunities for those in this field is expected to grow faster than the average occupation over the next several years.  The reason for this growth is mostly because the demand for personal appearance services continue to grow.  Those working within the pedicure and manicure aspects of the profession are expected to have the greatest employment opportunities.

The median hourly wage for beauticians in May 2006 was $10.25 when including commission and tips.  Those working as barbers earned an average wage of $11.13 while skin care specialists earned $12.58.
