Employment opportunities for financial accountants are expected to grow faster than the average occupation over the next several years.  As financial laws become more stringent and businesses become more accountable for the financial status of the business, professionals increasingly look to financial accountants to provide them with guidance and consultative support. 

 

The median annual income of accountants varies according to their area of specialty, though the overall median annual income for financial accountants in May 2006 was $54,630.  Thos working in the bookkeeping, tax preparation, and accounting niche earned a median annual salary of $57,020.  Those working as managers of enterprises and companies earned $55,560, those working for the local government earned $50,120, and those working in depository credit intermediation earned $49,380.  Those working for state government institutions earned the least, with a median annual salary of $47,200.
