In the past, all that was required to become a travel agent was a love and knowledge of travel and great vacation destinations. Today, however, most travel agencies are looking for someone that has a college degree as well as travel experience. You can also launch a career as a travel agent by completing a travel agent program through a vocational school or by participating in a full-time travel agent program. These programs may be available through adult education programs, community colleges, and online schools.
When pursuing an education to become a travel agent, you will learn about various cruise lines and destinations. In addition, you will learn about sales technique as well as how to use computerized systems. This is particularly important since much of the reservation and arrangement process takes place on the computer.
