While sound engineers operate the equipment that records or edits sound, audio video techs set up the equipment that performs those functions. Such equipment includes, microphones, speakers, video monitors, mixing boards and all the wiring and cabling between the equipment. AV techs who work in the movie business may have to perform their duties on location, while permanent sets don't require as much set up and take down. AV techs may also work with special lighting, including spotlights and computer controlled lights.
Audio Video equipment techs work in a number of environments including television and movie production, live productions - concerts, theater productions, etc - sporting events and any avenue that needs sound amplification, recording or video. AV techs may perform repairs on equipment as well.
If you love electronics and audio video technology, a well paying career as an audio video equipment technician awaits.
