A person interested in becoming a database manager generally must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in the field.

Several educational paths exist to become a dental assistant. Most dental assistants learn on the job, however more and more dentists hire assistants with formal training.  The American Dental Association accredits one and two year dental assistant programs leading to certificates or associate's degrees. 

To work as a dental hygienist, a State license is required.  Licensure is contingent upon graduation from an accredited dental hygiene school.  A variety of certificates and degrees are available in dental hygiene.

In desktop publishing, employers consider the ability to do the job to a great extent.  With that being said, the best jobs tend to go to those who have some formal training.

It is possible to start a career as a diesel mechanic without formal training, but employers tend to want workers with classroom training particularly with the increased use of technology in the equipment.
